Who are we?

Lodge House B&B provides a peaceful setting for our guests to enjoy the many splendors of the beautiful Blackdown Hills.

Neil and Kathy Arnold

A warm welcome

Your hosts are Neil and Kathy Arnold who will assure you of a warm welcome. Neil retired early from his job as an aerospace industry project manager and Kathy is a complementary therapist.

We moved to Buckland St Mary from Slough, Berkshire in January 2010 and bought Lodge House with a view to renovating it and starting up a B&B.

Tarquin the cat

Tarquin the Cat

You will also be welcomed by Tarquin, our old black long-haired cat, who is very friendly. We have another cat, called Tia, a small tabby and white, who is more likely to run away, as she is very timid.

Fresh eggs from the hens

Fresh free range eggs

We keep a dozen or so hens free range to provide fresh eggs for breakfast. Our first 8 hens were rescued from a farm that produced eggs for a major supermarket. Now they have a lovely life with good food, space to run around and fresh air in return for a few eggs every day.

Buckland St Mary

The village of Buckland St Mary

Buckland St Mary is a village of only 450 inhabitants, but is spread over a large area. In the centre of the village is a large Victorian Church and a thriving village school. This is a rural area where the majority of farming is dairy.

a few words about us...

Lodge House dates back to the 1750’s and retains fine original features. We are approx 750 feet above sea level here, and the air is clean and pure. A footpath runs past our front door and the only traffic is the occasional walker or horse rider. The views from here are amazing, the peace and tranquility are second to none, making Lodge House B&B an ideal place for a stress-relieving break, away from the hustle and bustle of busy everyday life.

When our guests arrive we want them to relax, leave their troubles at the door and step into a world of home comfort and rest. As owners we intend to see that every attention is paid to detail and service.

We offer a full English breakfast each morning, with a vegetarian and light option, using local produce where possible, free range eggs from our own hens, honey from our bees, and home made preserves from our fruit trees and bushes when available. The large south-facing, comfortable first floor guest bedroom, with its antique furniture and modern touches is ready to embrace the individual who is looking for peace and quiet, or the more adventurous person who likes to be active such as walkers and cyclists. Adjacent is a private bathroom that has recently been refurbished to a high specification.

We offer complementary therapies such as Reflexology, Indian Head Massage and Aromatherapy massage to guests at an additional cost and offer a discounted Therapeutic package, incorporating 2 nights B&B and 2 therapies.

Weekenders
If you are coming from London or SE England, then we are approximately a 2 ½ to 3 hours drive away. The Blackdown Hills can seem like a different world and is attractive to those people who have the need to get away but do not have the time to go too far.

Therapeutic Breaks
Because of the complementary therapies we offer, Lodge House B&B is a unique choice for people looking for a relaxing break.

Active vacationers
As we will have secure stables where bicycles could be locked away safely we encourage guests who are cyclists and ramblers/walkers who are looking for a more active break.

Location
The sheer beauty of our setting must be experienced and enjoyed. Nestled in the Blackdown Hills with a lovely view of the fields, Lodge House B&B is the ideal place to listen to the birds sing and take in Mother Nature. A pretty cottage garden makes this setting a truly lovely place.
